Public Health and Safety Advocate Award
In April 2004, Richard H. Flanagan, Director of the Public Safety Training Center at Onondaga Community College, was honored as the Public Health & Safety Advocate award winner for the Central New York ASSE. Rich received this award based on his history in law enforcement, fire service, and education, as well as his efforts in coordinating public safety organizations, businesses and industry to improve emergency preparedness and response for the Central New York community. Rich has been involved in the volunteer fire service since 1967 and was a distinguished member of the Onondaga County Sheriff's Office police division from 1970 to 1990. In 1990 Rich joined Onondaga Community College's Public Safety Training Center, where he is currently the Director. His work done through the PSTC in integrating fire, police, EMS, and business into a cohesive emergency response team put him over the top. This work has been recognized by the State Emergency Management Office, Federal Emergency Management Agency, and the federal Department of Justice. The Central New York Chapter of the American Society of Safety Engineers is pleased to recognize Richard Flanagan - Great Job Rich!
