The Central New York Chapter of the American Society of Safety Engineers, in keeping with its mission to promote the advancement of the safety profession and safety professionals in its geographic area, has established a scholarship program to financially assist deserving individuals pursuing a degree in Occupational Safety or other related curriculum at a college or university. The scholarship ranges from $500 to $1000 per recipient, and is awarded annually.

Eligibility

A. College Students

  1. Must have completed at least one full semester of at least six (6) credit hours; three (3) of which must have been in a safety or safety related subject.
  2. Must be registered for at least six (6) credit hours at the time of application; three (3) of which must be in a safety or safety related topic.
  3. Should have a grade point average of 3.0 (based upon a 4.0 scale) in all safety or safety related courses
  4. Shall be an active member of an ASSE Student Section (if a local section exists).

B. High School Students

  1. Must be a Senior.
  2. Must have applied for and have been accepted in a college or university in a safety or safety related curriculum.
  3. Must have maintained a 3.0 grade point average (based on a 4.0 scale) during high school.
  4. Must be registered for a minimum of six (6) credit hours at a college or university; three (3) of which must be in a safety or safety related curriculum.

C. Both College and High School Applicants

  1. Preference shall be given to students who reside within the geographical boundaries of the Central New York Chapter.
  2. Must agree to allow the Scholarship Committee to review all applicable information, including, but not limited to:
    - transcripts
    - job evaluations
    - conduct reports

Applications can be downloaded off of this page. All applications must be submitted by March 31st. Scholarship award recommendations from the Committee shall be based on the following:

-Eligibility (see below)
-GPA (verified by transcript)
-College recommendations (or acceptance verification)
-Personal references
-Scholastic and career goals
-ASSE Student Section activity participation (if applicable)
-Any other applicable information (as appropriate)

The Scholarship Committee may request a personal interview with the applicant. Recipients will be notified by June 1st.

All applications must be made on the form provided along with a copy of all transcripts, current course registration, one (1) personal letter of reference, one (1) academic letter of reference, copy of ASSE Student Section membership (if applicable), letter to the committee outlining scholastic and career goals, and any other pertinent information.
